Beginning in late summer 2019, the 2040 project team hosted and attended numerous community events and public meetings throughout the county. To date, the team has hosted or attended more than two dozen community events and pop-up engagement opportunities. Six principles guide these community engagement efforts.
Be bold! - Be bold, creative, and make participation fun!
All in! - Build broad ownership of the planning process and outcomes
Seek out non-traditional audiences - Reach beyond and build capacity with citizens who are not typically involved in community-wide planning efforts
Easy to understand - Communicate with simple, clear language and graphics
Good stewards - Strategically allocate project resources to maximize efficiency
Collaborate with other plans - Leverage the engagement efforts of the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan and the engagement and outreach activities of other major plans
